Hair style for man – Tiktok Edition

Hi guys, finally I have a new hair tutorial for you. Stay tuned and learn how to style your hair perfectly for any occasion as a man. Currently I have a few highlights on the top and my hair is a little longer. So this tutorial is perfect for those who want to tame their wild mane. Learn now how to make the TikTok hairstyle work for you.

Step 1

If you start with freshly washed hair, the first thing you need to do is dry your hair. The top of the hair can still be a little damp, but the sides and back should be completely dry. When washing, you should use high quality products that nourish your hair. I use conditioner every day, shampoo every other day and once a week I apply a hair mask. In addition, I also use some hair oil from time to time. Currently I use the products of Fable & Mane /ad non-paid.

Step 2

In the next step, I apply some volume foam. Therefore I use a product from Syoss / ad non-paid. For this I use about a handful of foam, distribute it in my hands and then apply the foam in my hair where I want to have volume. Since I like to have volume in the front, I apply the foam predominantly on the front. I also add a little to the sides and back. To make sure it has the desired effect, I rub the foam and make sure it reaches the roots, because it is from them that the volume is generated. Currently it looks like the typical surfer style hairstyle. That’s why I’m already moving on to the next step.

Step 3

To avoid a wet look, I blow dry my hair using a brush. It is important to use the hottest temperature level, but not the strongest level. I roll my hair up with the brush and dry it from down and the top. In this step, do not hold the hair dryer in one place for too long, otherwise the hair will dry out. Now repeat the same with the side. After I’m done with the top hair I repeat this step with my right and left hair parts as well. In the end the rest of the back of the head must be blow-dried. Here I use no brush, but simply my hands to speed up the process.

Step 4

Now a little bit of a matte paste can be applied. I don’t use hairspray or hair gel, for example, because I don’t want my hair fixed, but rather a natural look. Here I use the “Strand Matte” matte paste from got2b /ad non-paid and the molding paste from Forte /ad non-paid. In this step the hair can be simply messed up and moved backwards and forwards. Then I tiny it up at the sides and roll it up in the front.

And now my TikTok hairstyle is ready. I hope you like the result. Tell me about your thoughts and your suggestions for improvement in the comments.

Hairstyle Tutorial – short Hair

Hey guys and welcome back to another hair tutorial! This time with my short hair.

I went to the hairdresser, because I didn’t like my long hair anymore. I haven’t done a hairstyle tutorial with this haircut yet, so letโ€™s go! It’s like 5 mm on the side and a normal boy’s length on top.

Step 1: Wet the hair

Wet your hair and start raising it up a little bit, because we are going to use volume foam later on.

Step 2: Volume foam

It doesn’t really matter which product you use. Take a hand full โ€“ that’s enough. After that you use the hair dryer and hair brush to style it. Take the brush and roll it into your hair, creating a toll in the process. Then you dry it with the hairdryer. But watch out: don’t get too close, because if you do, your hair dries out and tends to break easily. Analyze the direction or the swirl of your hair. It doesn’t make any sense to force it against ist natural direction.

Step 3: Dry it

When you are finished with your brush, your hand takes over. Dry your hair with the hairdryer.

Step 4:

When your hair is nice and dry, the matt paste comes into play. It doesn’t really matter what paste you use. Take some in both of your hands and really mess up your hair. First mess it up and then tidy it up.

Et voila, you are done!

If you have any suggestions or ideas for new videos, just let me know in the comments. Until then, have a great time and see you soon!

Haircut for men EVERYONE can wear!

Hey guys, welcome back! I cut my hair โ€ฆ AGAIN! This time I did a completely different cut. I shaved off the sides and made the hair on top a bit shorter, but still rather long. That way I can style it in many different ways: to each side, flat or with volume.
Of course I didnโ€™t cut is myself, my friend Chris was helping me out. Excellent barber!

Before we were ready to get going, we had to wash the hair. But I guess you already know that from your own barber ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Step 1 – rough form sides

To get the rough form in, we started with the sides. We shaved them to a particular length, so we could still adjust them later on. Donโ€™t get them too short!

Step 2 – fading up

When we got the right length on each side, we continued by cleaning the outside and started fading up. Thatโ€™s the reason I told you not to get it too short from the beginning. The way we did it, we could still adjust the fade.
We started with 12 mm and went up to 20, which isnโ€™t that short for sides, but in comparison to my longer hair on top looks really cool. Find out, what length fits you!

Step 3 – top

Cut the top. The top hair, of course! ๐Ÿ˜‰ We really cut a chunk, because my hair was already so long, it had to be done. But you can play with the length. Again, find out what works for you.

Step 4 – thin out

Because I have very thick hair, we thinned out the top. Doing that allows me to actually style my hair in any direktion I want to. And it will grow back anyway. ๐Ÿ˜€

Step 5 – clean the back

To finish up, we cleaned out the back, so that it doesnโ€™t look as โ€žroundโ€œ anymore.

Step 6 – Styling

Styling: Here is where the fun begins! We started by using sea salt spray, because my hair still was very thick and heavy and falling in any direction. With blow drying that spray in, we gave it more texture, so it was much easier to style afterwards.
Then we continued with dry shampoo, which gave my hair even more texture, more grip and more volume.
Now it gets interesting. After we applied the hairwax, we used hairspray to make it hold. But we didnโ€™t do it the ordinary way: Chris sprayed it on his fingers, going through my hair afterwards.

And thats it! A look that everyone can wear and thatโ€™s very versatile. I hope you enjoyed this post and I could give you some useful advice.

My Model Journey – How did I become a fashion model?

Hey guys, I hope you are all doing fine! Today I want to tell you about how my career as a model started. I learned so much since the beginning and I hope you can take away something from it, too.

2015

The Beginning

It all started six years ago โ€“ in 2015. I was 19 years old at the time, visiting a fitness fair called fibo. Maybe you have heard of it. I was walking around as a visitor, looking at different things, talking to people, when a photographer approached me. He said that Iโ€™d look interesting (because thatโ€™s what you want to hear, right? You look โ€žinterestingโ€œ :D). He said that he wanted to take pictures of me. He gave me his little card and off he went.
I was really stunned by that. It was the first time anyone ever told me, I could be a model. And, to be honest, I thought he was lying. ๐Ÿ˜€ But that meeting sparked a fire in me. From that day on I wanted to become a model.

When I was in school, I was always the smallest one of my classmates, because I was a year younger than them. So naturally that was pretty rough. When I turned 16, I said to myself: I want to change something. I want to be a person, people look up to. And when I got the offer to take those pictures, I wanted to prove to everyone, my classmates, my old friends, my university colleagues, that I can become a model. So I accepted the offer and took the pictures.

The First Shoot

It was a very interesting shoot, because I have never been in front of a camera before, it was a first for me. And when I saw the pictures, I almost gave up immediatley. I wasnโ€™t happy with my body at all. I had pictures in mind of those โ€žperfectโ€œ fitness models with their abs and perfect shape โ€“ they were just all well trained Abercrombie guys. And then I looked at me and thought: Oh, damn. Thatโ€™s not what I look like.
So I decided to train more. I went to the gym every day. And I continued taking pictures with the photographer. From shoot to shoot the pictures got better and better. And I got more confident because of that.

2017 – Starting Instagram

With that new confidence, I started uploading these pictures on Instagram. But what I was doing then wasnโ€™t Fashion Modeling at all. It was more like Art Style, Art Photography, Fitness Modeling, Instagram Modeling, whatever you want to call it. But it was no proper Fashion Modeling.

And then everything happened pretty fast. On Instagram I grew to 100k within a couple months and I got awards as an Influencer โ€“ but that wasnโ€™t my dream. I wanted to become a proper Fashion Model. That was my goal from the first second Iโ€™ve started. But it was hard to get into the whole business.

In late 2017, when I finished my studies, my mum wanted me out of the house :D. She wanted to push me and support me doing my masters degree or growing my personality by going to Australia, doing Work and Travel. Those were my two options, both with big potential in it. In the end, I decided to go to Australia, because there I could do Social Media on the side and at the same time explore the world and grow my personality.

2018 โ€“ Australia

So I went to Australia. I started as a backpacker for three or four months and went from Melbourne to Sydney. Because simultaneously I was growing as an Influencer, I got invited to many events, which was really cool. And at one of those events I met my first proper Model Agent.
With that agency I learned the in and outs oft he Modeling Industry. I learned about test shoots (You can, too, itโ€™s on my website ๐Ÿ˜‰) and I got my first jobs.
Then I got very lucky, because Carlos Bรถttcher came to Australia. He is a proper Fashion Model and actor. I learned a lot from him, especially how to act in front of the camera. I am very grateful fort hat, Carlos!
From there on out I shot for โ€žAussiebumโ€œ, which was my first major shoot. And after that I even got to do some stuff with their daughter company in New Zealand, which was amazing as well! With those experiences in mind, I went back home to Germany.

2019

Germany

Having done some cool shoots in other countries, I now wanted to become a Fashion Model in Germany. But that was a lot harder that I thought it would be. In every country something else is required from you. In Germany, for example, they are very strict about the height and they donโ€™t like searching for new Model Faces. In the U.S. on the other hand it is completely different, they love finding fresh faces.
Because of that, I couldnโ€™t find an agency back home. I had to split from my agent in Australia, because my Visa ran out and I wasnโ€™t able to go back there. But luckily for me, another door opened itself.

Signing up with DT Modelmanagement

I got in contact with DT Modelmanagement, which is my Model Agency right now. I wanted to try it big. I wanted to become a model in America, the land of opportunities! In the U.S. all the big campaigns are done, and in addition to that, there is a much greater variety of model types. Every Model has his or her unique style. I am more of a commercial guy, even though I have done High Fashion Modeling as well โ€ฆ

Singapore

When I signed with DT, I went to Singapore. Why? Because I didnโ€™t have my Visa for the U.S. It is very hard to get. You have to have dozens of magazine publications, you have to have support, people have to recommend you, it is a real struggle to get that Visa. Right now I am applying for it, so fingers crossed!
At that time Singapore was a great option for me. It was a lot easier to get magazine publications there as in comparison to europe. I went there for three months and was working quite well – even though the market in Singapore does not pay very well. As a Fashion Model, you always have to invest in yourself for your future, especially in the beginning.

2020

January โ€“ Milan

Having done that, I got back to europe. I signed with a Model Agency in Milan, and I went to Milan. That was the next step. Sometimes Model Agencies pay for an AirBnB and part of your travel, which is really cool. But that wasnโ€™t the case for me, unfortunately. I had to pay everything myself, but like I said, sometimes you have to invest.
So, I did pretty good in Singapore, I was confident enough to go to Milan and โ€ฆ I did not book one single job there. Not one. Obviously I was very depressed about it. But I have learned that sometimes you donโ€™t get a job. If you donโ€™t, that is not the end of the world, just work as hard as you can to get the next one! In average a model gets one in ten jobs, so donโ€™t get upset if you donโ€™t get anything for a couple of weeks or even months. Just make sure you work on yourself to get the next one.
Luckily for me, I was doing Instagram and creating my own videos on the side, so that way I had some sort of progress and still had a great time there.

March โ€“ stuck in Germany

When I got back home, Corona struck. We got in full lockdown and I was stuck in Germany. But it was actually a blessing in disguise for me. After months of travelling I was very privileged to spend time with my family. I grew my hair out, I shredded down my body, I started the Visa process for america and โ€“ when the lockdown was allowing it โ€“ did a few jobs here as well.

2021 โ€“ What is happening?

Now it is 2021. I hope to get my Visa very soon and smash the Fashion Modeling world overseas in the U.S.!

So, that is pretty much my story. I think, the most important advice I can give you is something, which has been said very often, but cannot be said enough: Never give up on your dreams! For a model, I didnโ€™t have the perfect prerequisites. I donโ€™t have the height for it, all the Model Agencies in Germany told me that I am too small.
I think you have to find your own market and believe in yourself. I believe in myself. I am going to america and I will smash it over there! I have done jobs (MCM, Levis, Cartier, Aussiebum,โ€ฆ) , I have done magazines (August Man Magazine, GMARO Magazine Cover, Desnudo Homme Cover, Vanity Teen Magazine, โ€ฆ) So I know, I can be a Fashion Model.

In the U.S., you have to be prepared for every situation, so I am taking acting classes as well. And in addition to that, I want to talk more about the Modeling World with you guys. I want to take you on the journey with me and maybe even give you some advice, if you are starting your own road.

The Youtube Video below will give you more insights and pictures about my journey.

Model ABC – What is a Test Shoot?!

There are many different types of test shoots. Basically the name “test shoot” already contains the explanation. You test, you learn, you connect with people from the industry and you expand your portfolio.

What is a test shoot?

A test shoot has no minimum or maximum number of people that can be involved. Sometimes only the model and the photographer shoot, sometimes make-up artists are involved as well. The only important thing is that no third party is involved which has commissioned the shoot. You work together, but for yourself, so to speak.
In the best case, no one has to pay for this test. The profit is the resulting pictures that the artists involved can include in their portfolio – the model as well as the photographer and the make-up artists.

Why do you need to do this?

If you are a model at the very beginning of your career, these shoots help to generate just that and fill your portfolio. Depending on the size of the photographer, he or she may demand a small fee from the model for this, since the photographer can usually not use the pictures as well as the model itself.
The opposite situation also exists: if the model has already achieved a certain level of recognition on the market, and a relatively new photographer wants to expand his skills, he may pay the model.
In most cases, however, no money flows from one to the other,ย  it is simply a test shoot to get to know each other and, most importantly, push each other.
But there are other reasons to have a test shoot. For example, I recently updated my portfolio because my hair is significantly longer than in the most recent picture in my portfolio. If the hair comes off again, I’m probably due for a new test shoot. ๐Ÿ˜€
A test shoot is also useful when entering a previously unknown country. This way you are able to get to know the local photographers and acclimatise. This is very important, because photographers are often responsible for selecting models for jobs. As everywhere in life, connections are incredibly important and contribute significantly to success.

How do I get test shoots?

The classic way to get a test shoot is through your own model agency. They can then get in touch with a photographer.
In the digital age, however, there are of course other ways. Instagram and the like make this possible. On these platforms, you can ask photographers directly and arrange a test shoot.

You basically can’t do too many test shoots. But you should always be careful and not equate these tests with real jobs. Remember: You don’t usually get paid for these shoots. Therefore, you should always think about booking “real” jobs and earning money. Don’t end up losing your appetite because you’ve had your fill of shoots. ๐Ÿ˜€

This is what a test shoot looks like!

With my team, I shot a short behind the scenes video of our test shoot in Singapore 2019. Here you can follow first-hand how such a shoot goes; how I get made up, the shoot itself and the selection of the photos on the computer. Just have a look at my YouTube channel: @fabianxarnold

Model ABC: How to become a model? – First Steps

Since I’ve been working as a professional fashion model around the world many people had asked me how they can become a model. Thats the reason to make a short tutorial about how the model world works.

1. Am I able to become a model??!

This question does not actually arise because each person is unique in their own way and can therefore work as a model. You should always be clear about what type of model you are. Are you tall and thin and can work more as a high fashion model. Are you built more stable and therefore work more as a photo model.

You should always keep your strengths in mind and try to implement them in the field of modeling. For example, it’s cool if you have a lot of freckles. This can be shown very well in headshots and is super popular.

Your personality also plays a big role, because nobody wants a model, which is super shy and does not think creatively. It’s better to do a little too much than not enough!

Attributes in the model world can be:

Hair, face, eyes, body, pigments, size, etc.

It is not about “beauty”! Unique is the most important word here.

2. What are the model markets?

Each country usually has its own model market. Different model types are preferred for each market. In Germany, for example, you should be at least 185 cm as a man to work in the fashion sector. In Los Angeles, for example, if you work in the field of swimwear, you can still be under 180cm.

Every market is different, some are more popular if you are older some prefer with a beard and some smaller young ones without a beard.

It looks similar for women!

3. Whats the best model agency for me?

Basically, you can search for model agencies on the Internet. You can then make yourself smarter at www.models.com. Almost all model agencies are listed there and also divided into different categories.

The bigger is not better at the same time! It always depends on how well you get along with your agent. A healthy relation with you and your model agency is usually worth a lot more than size and name.

4. How to get a model agency?

The easiest way to get an agency is to introduce yourself to it by email. A small email is sufficient in which you briefly describe who you are, where you come from and what you do. In addition, you can of course also mention whether you have any experience in the model area and of course insert pictures. The pictures can already be model pictures, but do not have to be. All you need is simple photos with your cell phone on the front of a white wall with normal jeans and a white shirt. Everything also from the side and from behind. You can of course also add a few different poses, laugh or seriously.

5. What is a model book?

A model book or model book in English is a collection of the best pictures of you as a model. With this folder you introduce yourself to customers and can show customers who you are and what work you have already done. In the book model it is important to show different sides of you.

6. What are polar/digitals?

One speaks of polas or also digital if you want to have unprocessed pictures of your person from the front, from the side and from the back, to get a natural impression of you

You then send these to the model agencies in the email. They are also used to give customers an impression of you!

That was some information in the modeling area. If you have any special questions, please ask me in the comments.

The best nutrition to be fit – by fabianxarnold

My last blog post was about showing you what my weekly workout plan looks like. In this blog post I want to tell you more about my diet.

Preliminary

I would also like to say that there is not the perfect diet and it can have different effects on each body.

It always depends on how your metabolism works and is adjusted and whether you have a strong body or are rather thinner. Every body is different. You should always listen to your own body and not just follow the rules of others.

My starting situation

As many of you probably know, when I was 16, I started going to the gym. Since I have always been one of the thinner ones and very active in sports, I had problems with gaining weight . Therefore, I would like to focus more on this situation in this blog post because it can be hard for some people to gain weight. But of course I would like to give tips on how to incorporate a diet or whether it makes sense at all to torture yourself with a diet. Maybe you just prefer to change your complete diet?

Healthy weight gain

Altogether there are three Marco components. That would be fats, proteins and carbohydrates. What has always worked best for me is to reduce fats and to consume healthy fats like nuts or fish and to keep proteins high with a normal dose of carbohydrates.

To gain weight you should generate a calorie surplus. To keep it healthy, it was easiest for me to eat a lot of pasta, lots of rice and potatoes. Then there were always proteins such as beans, lentils or chicken. I have always had a lot of strength.

Many may think that it does not matter what you eat when you want to gain weight. But for me it was very important because I wanted to gain weight but stay shredded! Not taking any fat but simply building lean muscle, it was important for me to eat healthy and use healthy carbohydrates. Of course there were also cheat days from time to time like a burger, pizza and so on. But in general I ate very clean and stayed shredded, but gained weight.

Lose weight and lose fat

After a couple years I was too big for fashion modeling and had to much muscle mass and also fat. For that I ate less carbohydrates but a lot of vegetables and protein, like eggs and chicken and also lentils and beans, of course, no cheat days. After 3-4 weeks you should definitely see significant differences! It is important that you do not make the diet change abruptly. Slowly prepare your body for it. Even if you end the diet, you should not make it abrupt, slowly get used to normal.

How good is a diet in general?

Actually, I’m not a fan of diets. Sometimes I have done it to achieve faster results faster. However, to achieve long-term success, you should make a healthy and balanced diet. This also includes a lot of fruits, vegetables, potatoes, rice, pasta and proteins.

I never made a nutrition plan. I was always a friend of to eat what was in the fridge. However, it is easier for many people to make a pla, when to eat something.

Diet depends on the sport!

The diet also depends on the sport. If I do more exercise, I also have to get more energy (carbohydrates). Otherwise, I achieve less athletic performance. That is different for everyone. I did sports twice a day and therefore I need more energy. if you do less you also need less energy. You should also plan when you do sports and when you eat it. If you want to lose weight, it is the best to eat a few proteins and vegetables before training and then carbohydrates, proteins and fats after training.

If you want to gain weight, you should also eat carbohydrates before training to provide the body with enough energy and thereby gaining weight.

Conclusion

I never thought too much about my diet, just made sure to do enough exercise. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a feedback or write an e-mail. Be sure to check out my Instagram account for daily inspiration.

Episode 26: โœ–๏ธToo busy – is that possible?! โœ–๏ธ

When someone had asked me that question a couple weeks ago I would said

Episode 24: โŒ Traveling or Family?! ๐Ÿ’ญ โŒ

Since a couple weeks Iโ€™ve been thinking a lot about my whole travels.
Itโ€™s 1,5 years ago that I went to Australia as a Backpacker. Since then I never really got home…
Yes, it just feels great to see all those amazing places… But what I learned that LIFE IS NOT ALL ABOUT THAT!
For me it became so much more important to stay at home as much as I can to spend time with my family…
Every time when I come home after a couple month I just realize how much time is gone.

Modeling in Singapore 2019 for 3 month

I was in Singapore for modeling from September until December 2019. It was my third Modell Trip and so much staff changed during that time. In this blog post I will tell you more about what happened in Singapore.

First arrival and impressions

When I arrived in Singapore I got on the train and drove towards the city centre because I had rented an apartment there. My first impression was that the streets are so clean and everything was very safe. There were cameras everywhere and you didn’t feel like you had to be careful. Singapore wasn’t as Asian as I thought it was. Everyone spoke perfect English and the street signs were in English.

The public train system was also well developed. You can tap with your credit card to pay the train or you can buy a card at 7Eleven.

Itโ€™s so hot in Singapore

Since I was living in Australia for a year, I was used to the heat. But Singapore wasn’t just hot! It was oppressive! You have the feeling that you start to sweat as soon as you get out of the air conditioning. Fortunately, air conditioning was available in all public buildings and on the trains.

The sun is not as strong on the skin as in Australia. Nevertheless, you should always wear long clothes or use sunscreen because the sun is strong there too. Singapore is located directly on the equator.

ย

Modeling in Singapore as a Male Model

My reason to go to Singapore was that my mother agency from LA said that the model market in Singapore should be very good.

You have the chance to model for big magazines. So, you can build your portfolio as a model. That can help you for example, to get the visa for the United States.

My mother agency from LA got me a model agency in Singapore.

Right on the second day when I arrived in Singapore, I went to the agency and picked up my model cards.

The day before you always get the information about the dates and castings that are due the next day. The normal procedure looks like this:

You go to auditions, introduce yourself, hand in your model card, do a few digitals and then you wait to see if you get the job or not.

In three months, I modeled for three magazines and for several companies in the e-commerce sector. I am happy with my time in Singapore because it has brought me closer to my goal of modeling in America.

Party and social life in Singapore

I am very disappointed in partying and social life in Singapore. In the last few years I have been to a lot of parties in Australia, America and also in Europe and you cannot compare anything to the parties in Singapore. I didn’t like the music in Singapore at all. It was a remix of songs I heard ten years ago. Alcohol is so expensive in Singapore that I always thought whether it was worth drinking or not. The only thing I did was that I went to movies!

Cinemas in Singapore are cheaper than in Germany. So, during the week in THE CATHAY you only pay the equivalent of 6 โ‚ฌ for a new movie!

Beaches in Singapore

Singapore is right on the water but has almost no natural beaches. The only beach thereย is on the island of Sentosa and it is an artificial beach. You can’t compare it to a normal beach. The beach vibe is not like in Australia. There are not many people at the beach and the water is not great either because the water is very warm and there are no waves.

Conclusion about Singapore

All in all, Singapore was definitely worth it. Since I was able to drive my business forward and also made good progress in modeling.

However, I would not go to Singapore for life because it is just too boring and there is nothing really you can do.
